Ludlam Island (Ocean View)

The Stoutmeister and I headed “down the shore” to meet up with JohnMacBeer to do a review of Ludlam Island Brewery and enjoy a few pre-holiday brews.  Apparently, JohnMacBeer arrived a little early, and opted to take the brewery tour instead of waiting patiently for the Stoutmeister and I to arrive.  Once we arrived, the sang the praises of the tour, and the Stoutmeister and I proceeded to the brewery area to join what we thought was a tour, but we ended up following a couple up-stairs to another more private bar area.  I’m convinced this is where all the cool drinkers hang out, so I went down to bring JohnMacBeer up to our new hangout.  This place has a very cool vibe, wood accent walls, steel tables, and some of the friendliest fellow beer drinkers who filled us in on some of the history of Ludlam Island.  I did ask the bartender for a brewery tour, and she basically pointed to the large window that overlooked the brewery, and said “You can see it all from here”.  That was it.  Not the most informative tour, but it was a nice view.

We had a great groupon deal for Ludlam Island – 4 flights, 4 pint glasses (empty, to take home), and 2 empty growlers, all for $42.  Awesome! JohnMacBeer also observed “Free Beer!  Yum!”  Ok, it was only free because I bought the groupon.  But to be fair, JohnMacBeer later treated us to a nice pizza dinner!  Beers on tap for the day included:

  • Harry’s Coffee Pale Ale – ABV 5.2%
  • 547 Stout – ABV 5.6%
  • Fish Alley Ale – ABV 7.0%
  • Copper Hat IPA – ABV 7.2%
  • East Koast Kolsch – ABV 4.8%
  • Foundation Rye Pale Ale – ABV 5.2%
  • Sinner’s DIPA – ABV 8.4%
  • Saint Session IPA – ABV 4.2%

A very nice range of brews, light to dark!  The posse enjoyed the East Koast Kolsch, with me adding the Copper Hat IPA to my favorites.

So we spent a very pleasant afternoon sipping brews, talking with other patrons, and catching up with great friends.

Favorite Beers of the Day:

  • Pretzel – Copper Hat West Coast IPA, East Koast Kolsch
  • The Stoutmeister – East Koast Kolsch
  • JohnMacBeer – East Koast Kolsch

Additional Posse Comments:

  • Pretzel – “Love that they are open everyday noon to 8 pm.  I quite liked the Kolsch, you don’t find a Kolsch at many of the breweries.”
  • JohnMacBeer – “My husband liked them all except the mashing pumpkin.”
  • The Stoutmeister – “Pale Ale to Stout, they have them!  Nice variety!  There was nothing I hated, but nothing that I would go out of my way for.”
