Glassboro Beer Festival 2017 (Glassboro, NJ)

2017 Glassboro Beer Festival
201 Rowan Blvd
Glassboro, NJ 08028

Date: September 23, 2017

The Beer Posse headed once again to the Glassboro Craft Beer Festival!  It is nice having a beer fest is our local area.  I know our DD’s (Designated Drivers) really appreciated it!  Princess and Nanny Franny dumped the rest of the Beer Posse at the Beer Fest, promising to pick us up at the end of the day.  Then they went on their merry way to do some heavy-duty shopping.  Not that I can blame them, this is not the greatest beerfest for non-drinkers, there aren’t many non-beer vendors, although there are food offerings and a good band.  There also are no tables or additional seating available unless you brought your own.  Since we have been to every Glassboro Craft Beer Festival, we were well prepared with our own lawn chairs.  Since it was going to be an unseasonably hot day, B3 also brought some chair umbrellas to block the sun.  After ridiculing him unmercifully for this ridiculous notion, I immediately snagged an umbrella when the sun rose and started roasting me in my flannel beer lounge pants.

This year the crowds seemed slightly smaller, but very friendly and enthusiastic.  There were plenty of breweries represented, and a very nice variety of offerings.  I particularly appreciated the beer list the venue provided to each guest.  It made it easy to track your tastings, and grade your favorites.  The Beer Posse scoped out a main sitting area, planted out chairs in a central location, and proceeded down one row of breweries.  OMG, we were drinking so fast!  That’s what happens when you hang with B3 and The Rabbit.  While The Stoutmeister and I are more into QUALITY, B3 and The Rabbit were more on the side of QUANTITY.  Luckily, The Stoutmeister had to hit the port-a-potties, and it gave us an opportunity to break away from the binge drinkers.  As we continued on our merry way, we managed to chat with the 2 sisters Michelle and Susan who run Pop-up Greenhouse, with their offering of upcycled succulents in beer themed mugs, steins, etc.  It is also nice to be remembered from the previous year by some of our favorite breweries.  Once again Rivertowne and Two Roads made the top of my list.  Although I was very disappointed in Eight and Sand, who advertised a Sweet Potato Ale, and they ran out within the first hour of general admission!  DARN!  I never had a Sweet Potato Ale!  And I was glad to see a new brewer I was unfamiliar with Green Flash.  Although when I first saw their tent, I thought it was a solar energy company.

My only criticism of this beer fest, is they do not offer a t-shirt!  Come on guys!  I want to buy a Glassboro Craft beer Festival Tee!  Let’s try to make that happen for next year.  Please!  If not, I will just have to make my own.

The Stoutmeister:  Look, it's The Village Idiot!

Pretzel:  Karen Vick?  Where, I've been looking for her all day!

The Stoutmeister:  No, I meant The Village Idiot Brewing Company Tent

Pretzel:  Oh...  My bad!

At the end of the day, the Princess and Nanny Franny picked up a tired and somewhat intoxicated Beer Posse, for the thankfully short ride home.  Thanks for a great Beer Fest!  See you next year!

Favorite Beers of the Day:

  • B3 – “The next one!”  Second place goes to Cape May Octoberfest Marzen
  • The Stoutmeister – Rivertowne’s Pineapple Ale
  • Pretzel – Rivertowne Halakahi Pineapple Ale, Two Roads OK2Berfest, Three 3’s Blueberry Saison

Additional Beer Posse Comments:

  • The Stoutmeister – This is the First Beer Fest where I felt I had too much to drink!  Thank goodness for the DD’s (Designated Drivers)
  • The Stoutmeister – In the Wrangler’s words …  “This beer fest kicked my ass!”
  • B3 – 5th trip to this beerfest.  Still enjoy, just the right size, although additional non-beer vendors and activities would be nice.  The band was decent, although honestly didn’t really notice them most of the time with the setup they had, the band was way off to the side.
  • Pretzel – Great number of breweries, and a really nice variety of beer offerings.  We weren’t inundated with pumpkin ales!
